DSS, Inc. Sponsors STAG Vets Inc. Agro-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
The mission of DSS, Inc. (DSS) is to improve health outcomes for Veterans, and this mission drives the company’s overall philanthropic priorities. As such, we were excited to sponsor the fourth annual Le Pied Du Mont Boucherie Festival, January 15-17 in the Piedmont region of Georgia.
The event supports the STAG Vets, Agro-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program, which helps combat veterans transition effectively into civilian life on Comfort Farms, the nation’s first Veterans Acute Crisis Agriculture Center.
STAG Vets created Comfort Farms in Honor of Army Ranger Captain Kyle A. Comfort, who was killed in action on May 8, 2010. Comfort Farms prepares Veterans and students for careers in sustainable food production, integrating economic profitability, environmental stewardship, and healing through the use of Agro-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and time-tested natural approaches.
The facility also serves in acute situations where time and help are of the essence. Since its inception, Comfort Farms has provided crisis services for more than 80 veterans within the past three years. With the support of the USDA, Comfort Farms also educated and assisted well over 500 Veterans with agricultural grants. Comfort Farms is proud to have welcomed over 10,000 visitors to the farm since its inception.
The Le Pied Du Mont Boucherie Festival serves as a fundraiser and educational gathering of butchers, chefs, farmers and Veterans coming together to help combat Veterans transition back into civilian life. This approach is an innovative blending of farm-to-table principles with proven cognitive behavioral therapies. Not only do Veterans receive therapy for post-traumatic stress symptoms, but they also take an active role in providing food security for local communities.
Helping Veterans help themselves and their communities – DSS is proud to support these efforts.
