PODCAST: Helping the VA Best Monitor and Manage Diabetic Patients
In the following DSS podcast interview Amy Vaccarello, a Clinical Systems Analyst with DSS, talks about the recent partnership with Diasyst, a provider of the best-of-breed technologies to empower healthcare organizations to monitor and manage diabetic patients.
The prevalence of diabetes and other chronic diseases in the Veteran population is a serious challenge to Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) mission of delivering the best possible quality care for Veterans.
Earlier this year, the National Diabetes Statistics Reports stated that 13 percent of all US adults aged 18 years or older had diabetes. However, looking specifically at the Veteran population, the number is much worse. One in four Veterans had diabetes in 2017. And since then, the diagnosis of diabetes has continued to rise in this country.
Since there was a 26 percent diabetes increase nationwide from 2012 to 2017, it’s reasonable to think there has been the same sort of rise – or more – within the Veteran population.
To help combat this serious health risk, DSS, Inc. has partnered with Diasyst, Inc. a leading specialist in the development and manufacturing of diagnostic system solutions, trusted by customers in more than 100 countries for over 25 years.
In this podcast, Amy Vaccarello, a Clinical Systems Analyst at DSS, describes in detail the challenge of chronic illnesses, like diabetes, and the potential impact the partnership with Diasyst could have on Veteran health. Highlights from our interview include:
