The Greatest Asset: How DSS propels its mission and margin through nurturing employees
More than three decades ago since the DSS founding, the adage “your employees are your best asset” still echoes in the hallways of the company and in the hearts of its people. As DSS blazed the trail in today’s digitized Veteran health care to offering solutions for commercial health care providers, its people remain the cornerstone of the company’s success and unrivaled reputation.
In the recent DSS Employee Satisfaction Survey results, the company recorded a high employee satisfaction rate of 76 percent. This result, resembling past years, is at par with the global and technology industry benchmarks. Employee satisfaction is a term that is used to describe whether employees are happy and fulfilling their desires and needs at work. Good working environment, growth and productivity, and job security topped the survey that contribute to overall employee satisfaction.
DSS plays a vital role in employee engagement through professional development and training opportunities, especially that the company aligns with and utilizes industry best practices and maintains the highest levels of industry certifications. DSS also offers a robust employee assistance program, generous compensation and benefits program, and employee rewards and recognition. It also allows the corporation and its employees to give back through its corporate social responsibility program. All these ties to its mission and corporate values.
DSS is also a proud employer of tenured, professional workers. Out of its 639 full-time employees, 30 percent or 196 have been with the company for more than 10 years. Throughout the years, its leaders and employees have been recipients of industry accolades for their contributions to being at the forefront of elevating quality health care. Both the DSS company and its people are recognized for leadership excellence, and for proven company solutions and value proposition.
The company’s employees include experienced business professionals, clinicians, and Veterans who work closely with customers every step of the way. Since 1991, DSS has been supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs, the nation’s largest health care system, and providing and sustaining solutions for the Veterans Health Administration. From national VA contracts to state and local, DSS delivers expertise to improve patient care, revenue cycles, compliance, and interoperability.
Presently, every VA Medical Center uses at least nine DSS solutions across clinical and business service lines. DSS supports VHA’s transformation to deliver highly reliable care and helps with multiple complex challenges such as the VA’s Electronic Health Record modernization program. In 2021, DSS officially launched its commercial division Juno Health that’s dedicated to building smarter, more flexible digital health care solutions for acute care hospitals and mental health facilities. Juno Health brings a more human-centered approach to health care by creating user-friendly innovations and solutions. From smarter and safer ePrescribing to a redefined Electronic Health Records to enhanced emergency department solutions, Juno Health is transforming digital health care – within the four walls of a hospital and beyond.
“We are proud of our people at DSS. Our success over the years is rooted from everyone’s dedication and hard work,” said Janet Byers, associate director, administration operations and business administration. “Our people are our valuable resources in continuing the delivery of quality health care for Veterans and improved clinical and administrative outcomes for our VA customers.”
