DSS, Inc. Presenting Veteran Suicide Prevention Solution at the AMIA 2022 Virtual Informatics Summit

Poster session to discuss solutions the VA is actively using to prevent and decrease suicide amongst Veterans

JUNO BEACH, Fla. (MARCH 17, 2022) — Document Storage Systems, Inc. (DSS, Inc.), a leading provider of health information technology (HIT) solutions for federal, private and public healthcare organizations, today announced that it is presenting at the AMIA 2022 Virtual Informatics Summit being held on March 21-24 at the Swissotel in Chicago.

Suicide prevention among Veterans is a top clinical priority for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). To address this, David Laborde, M.D., CEO, Iconic Data, Inc. and senior advisor, DSS, Inc., will hold a poster session at the Summit on Tuesday, March 22 at 5 p.m. Titled “Real-Time Decision Support for Achieving Maximal Compliance”, LaBorde will highlight the importance of workflow efficiencies improvements in preventing suicide.

“The mental health of our Veterans is highly important for the VA,” said Mark Byers, president of DSS, Inc. “At DSS, Inc., we have always been committed to helping the VA with its mission to provide the best quality of care for Veterans. We are excited to showcase our solution that actively helps to prevent and decrease suicides amongst our Veterans at the AMIA Informatics Summit 2022.”

The poster session is based on data from the DSS Iconic Data Suicide Prevention Manager (SPM), which offers a clinical business intelligence engine that allows for the observation of Veterans who have been identified to be at risk for suicide, and to identify, in real-time, potential defects in the Veteran’s care that may require intervention. The System also supports the VA’s overall journey to be a High Reliability Organization.

In addition, Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) screening must be attempted annually for every Veteran receiving care at the VA. Real-time reporting can aid suicide prevention teams and clinic staff and managers in determining whether the required screening was actually completed. If VA facility clinic staff at the various points of care can easily know which patients on the schedule are due for C-SSRS screening without having to open each chart, this could increase the probability that the screens are attempted.

With real-time push notifications, SPM leverages the power of timely data and process automation to protect patients at high risk for suicide. The SPM platform monitors suicide prevention care pathways and streamlines Suicide Prevention Coordinator workflows – permitting easy identification of items requiring attention and saving valuable time.
