Dept. of Veterans Affairs Awards COTS Contract to DSS, Inc. for VA Community Living Centers

Process enhancement to streamline workflows, reduce errors and improve patient safety.

Juno Beach, FL – November 3, 2015 –
Document Storage Systems, Inc. (DSS), the leading commercial product provider of VistA-based systems, today announced its prime contract award to provide a total replacement solution for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Resident Assessment Instrument/Minimum Data Set (RAI/MDS) system.

RAI/MDS is a standardized assessment and treatment planning process designed to identify the functional and health care needs of the Veteran. Clinicians and administrators that oversee residential care were historically constrained by manual treatment modalities.

DSS’ Caribou CLC Suite, will help to automate resident care workflow processes for Community Living Centers (CLC) through integration with The Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) to:

  • Decrease the risk of errors

  • Shorten workflow processes for providers

  • Improve overall delivery of residential care

The solution streamlines MDS care plan scheduling and tracking within an external hosted environment to reduce IT costs.

“We are very pleased to leverage our expertise with VistA to support the VA in its efforts to provide quality care to the senior Veteran population by facilitating more efficient operations,” said Mark Byers, CEO and president of DSS. “By integrating multiple VistA data points we are able to offer a low risk, high productivity solution to streamline processes for CLC care teams and enable clinicians and administrators to spend time where they are needed most, with the residents.”

DSS was awarded the prime contract in collaboration with subcontracted Small Businesses MDM Strategies, Inc., VetsAmerica Business Consulting, Inc. and Ideal System Solutions, Inc. to complete automation for RAI/MDS and help VA meet their small business goals.
