DSS' Thought Leader Presenting in Digital Guardians Panel at MidwestCon 2024

AI and digital innovation subject matter expert Rob Gordon to join the “Digital Guardians: Securing the Safety Net in the Information Age” panel

Rob Gordon, senior strategic leader for AI and digital innovation at DSS, will be participating in a panel at MidwestCon 2024 that explores critical strategies to protect sensitive information and fortify digital safety, particularly for the most vulnerable populations.

Titled, “Digital Guardians: Securing the Safety Net in the Information Age,” the panel is taking place on Wednesday, September 4th at 11:10 a.m., Room 230 at the 1819 Innovation Hub at the University of Cincinnati.

The panel will be moderated by John Cavanaugh, executive director, The Plunk Foundation. Rob will also be joined by Michael Loban, chief growth officer at InfoTrust; and Angeline Corvaglia, founder of Data Girl and Friends, on the panel.

Rob will be discussing the intersection of AI and strategies for protecting sensitive information – especially around the need to establish guardrails for true digital safety.

This topic is especially timely with the Biden Administration putting pressure on federal agencies to establish guidance and protections related to the use of AI across a variety of industries – as an extension of the 2023 AI Executive Order.

Last year, Rob joined DSS to lead our AI efforts with a key focus on enhancing AI capabilities for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He is a former professor and head of American Politics at the United States Military Academy at West Point, a former Deputy Under Secretary at the Department of Defense, and a retired Colonel. Rob is also a former White House Fellow under Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton.

Rob has led many AI-related thought leadership efforts for DSS, including writing about AI being both a renaissance and revolution for HIT Consultant. He also co-authored an article for Federal News Network on how Emotion AI can positively impact VA mental health care efforts. He has also discussed the current and future state of federal AI in this podcast interview. Additionally, Rob will be speaking on a second panel at the MidwestCon titled, “The Next Workforce: AI and the Future of Jobs”.
